Dumbarton haulage firm spreads festive cheer by putting up Christmas trees
A family-run haulage firm from Dumbarton have been helping to spread some much-needed festive cheer by putting up Christmas trees in local towns.
McGuire Transport dropped off local trees earlier this month, as the area prepares for a Christmas unlike any other.
And seeing the trees going into position came as a special moment for Loraine Wands, whose partner Stephen McGuire is a director of the firm.
She said: “It’s so nice to be involved in something like this. When we were putting the tree up in Balloch the people who were out walking by were saying how nice it was to see decorations still going up.
“It’s been hard for everyone but it’s nice to have some normality and something to bring a smile to kids’ faces.
“It is just a normal job for us in a way, but when things have been as they have then that makes it more special.
“Our wee boy, Jack, is only two and hasn’t really been able to learn and interact because of the pandemic.
“Last year he was too small to visit Santa, but this year would’ve been perfect – but obviously he’s missing out on that.
“We took him out to Balloch to see the tree going up and he loved it.”
Being involved in spreading some Christmas joy to the area is something that means a lot to the company who spend their time covering thousands of miles throughout the UK.
Loraine continued: “Stephen takes great pride in being from Dumbarton and all our lorries have Dumbarton on them so everyone knows where they are from when we’re all over the country. It means a wee bit more to us too because we’re a local company out and about in the community. Most of our work is on the road, so it’s nice to be doing something in Dumbarton.”
“As Stephen has been saying, McGuires from Dumbarton are white and blue and putting Christmas trees up is what we do!”
